2024 Plans
As 2023 winds to an end, many authors (at least those I’ve seen) are planning for the next year with huge releases, new projects, etc. However, I’ve decided to do the opposite.
A month ago, a realization dawned on me. 2024 will be a tough year, especially academically with harder classes and then college applications. Contrary to popular belief, publishing a book isn’t easy. It isn’t spewing words, not editing and designing a 5 minute cover. Publishing is a journey, often with waves of self-doubt, stress and burn out. Therefore, I’ve decided not to publish in 2024.
What??
Yep. However, I will continue writing. I don’t write to publish; I love writing (scroll to read my backstory). I plan to write a few novels (4-5 hopefully) and have them lined up to publish in 2025 so you might be seeing a book come out every 4 months or so. I have a bunch of ideas that I can’t wait to share with all of you next year 😄
I’m honored to announce an author event this Thursday. I’d love to see you all there 😁
We can’t talk about the future without talking about the past, right? I started writing 2019, when Covid struck. Before then, I hated writing. Hate isn’t a strong enough word. I loathed, despised writing. I don’t really remember why but I wasn’t a good writer. I was a voracious reader but how authors strung words together made no sense to me. In 2019, I wanted to change that. I wanted to be a good writer so I pulled out a notebook and started writing the first story that came to me, resulting in my first ever novel (this novel hasn’t and won’t ever be published 🙃). It spanned about 3 notebooks and as I read through what I wrote, I noticed how my voice and style changed. I was exponentially better at writing. Practice really did help.
I wrote 3 more unpublished novels, trying to hone my craft before writing Endangered. Before then, none of my novels were about unknown atrocities. They were just…stories. The reason I started writing about genocides was because I’ve experienced discrimination before as well. As a non-Caucasian person, I’ve been bullied when I was younger. I know how it feels not to have someone speak up for you and I don’t want others to experience the same desperation and pain. When I first heard about the Uyghurs and how no one was standing up to China, I wanted to contribute to the protests somehow. Hence, Endangered was born and I’ve been writing in the same genre ever since.
Actually, the first book I wrote was in second grade. A picture is attached below. If you’re interested in reading it, let me know 😆
One more thing before I end this, I would really appreciate it you could leave a review for any of my novels anywhere (Amazon is the best). Usually, people don’t realize how much even the smallest review helps but for authors, it’s like being given $500 🙃
